Oxygen Compressor

Oxygen (O₂) is an indispensable key gas for both life activities and industrial processes. As a strong oxidizing gas, its density is 1.429 kg/m³ under standard conditions, making it slightly heavier than air. Its chemical properties are extremely reactive, capable of oxidizing almost all elements except noble metals and halogens. It is widely used in steel metallurgy, metal cutting and welding, chemical synthesis, medical treatment, aerospace, and other fields. According to the national standard GB50030-2013, the fire hazard classification of oxygen facilities is defined as "Class B," highlighting its strong combustion-supporting risk. Therefore, the core challenge of compressing oxygen lies in eliminating any combustion or explosion caused by oil contamination, friction, or material incompatibility, imposing the highest level of requirements on compressor safety, sealing, and material compatibility.
Oxygen Compressor
Oxygen Diaphragm Compressor Advantages
  • 01
Absolutely Oil-Free & Ultimate Purity Assurance:
The structure of the diaphragm compressor ensures that oxygen is 100% free from contact with any lubricating oil during compression, perfectly complying with the absolute oil prohibition rule for oxygen compression. This not only prevents violent oxidation reactions and explosion risks but also guarantees the purity of the outlet oxygen, making it particularly suitable for medical oxygen generation, high-purity oxygen preparation, and fine chemical processes with stringent oil-free requirements.
  • 01
    Zero Leakage Static Seal Safety:
Utilizing static seal structures such as diaphragm isolation and O-rings, zero leakage from the gas side to the environment is achieved. This is crucial for preventing the accumulation of oxygen in the compressor room, which could create an oxygen-enriched environment (an oxygen concentration >23% significantly increases fire risk), providing the highest level of safety protection for operators and equipment.
Key Design Points for Oxygen Diaphragm Compressors
  • 01
Special Material Selection & Strict Degreasing Treatment:

All wetted parts in contact with oxygen, such as the cylinder head, diaphragm, gas valves, and piping, must be made of materials that are oxidation-resistant, low-friction, and do not produce dangerous reactions through incompatibility. Stainless steel (e.g., 304, 316L) or nickel-based alloys are typically selected. Before manufacturing and assembly, all components must undergo thorough degreasing cleaning to remove any grease residue. This is fundamental for preventing auto-ignition incidents.

  • 02
Diaphragm Safety Monitoring & Redundant Design:

A three-layer diaphragm structure is adopted, integrated with a diaphragm rupture alarm system. Once an outer diaphragm is damaged, the pressure change in the middle layer immediately triggers a pressure switch, producing an audible and visual alarm and automatically initiating an interlock shutdown. This prevents oxygen from entering the oil system or hydraulic oil from contaminating the gas, forming a critical safety barrier.

  • 03
Optimized Oil Circuit & Cooling System Design:

The precise hydraulic oil circuit system must ensure stable oil pressure that is always slightly higher than the gas pressure to protect the diaphragm and ensure compression efficiency. Simultaneously, efficient inter-stage coolers and an after-cooler must be configured to strictly control the discharge temperature at each stage, preventing excessive temperature rise of the oxygen that could exacerbate material oxidation risks or become an ignition source. The cooling system typically needs to be equipped with flow and temperature monitoring and interlock protection.

Oxygen Piston Compressor Advantages
  • 01
    Large Flow and High-Pressure Capability:

Suitable for large-scale industrial oxygen supply requiring high flow rates (up to thousands of Nm³/h) and medium-to-high pressures. In terms of investment and operating costs under high flow and high-pressure conditions, piston compressors offer flexibility in single-unit displacement and pressure range, which may be more economical compared to other oil-free compressor types.

  • 02
    Mature Technology and High Reliability:

Reciprocating piston technology has been long-term proven in industry, with a robust and durable structure and well-established maintenance procedures. Through the application of oil-free cylinder lubrication design and specialized isolation structures, it can reliably serve industrial scenarios that require stable demand but have relatively flexible purity requirements for oxygen.

Key Design Points for Oxygen Piston Compressors
  • 01
Oil-Free Cylinder Lubrication and Self-Lubricating Material Application:
Strictly complying with standards such as GB/T 13280-91, the cylinder must adopt an oil-free lubrication design. Piston rings, rider rings, and sealing elements in the packing must utilize self-lubricating materials to ensure no oil injection into the cylinder during operation, fundamentally avoiding oil contamination.
  • 02
Advanced Sealing and Distance Piece Design:
This is the safety core of a piston compressor for oxygen service. A long distance piece must be employed to form an isolation chamber between the cylinder and the crankcase. This chamber must be continuously purged and buffered with clean nitrogen or instrument air. Its function is, firstly, to prevent oil mist from the crankcase from migrating toward the cylinder side, and secondly, to safely guide any oxygen leaking from the packing to a vent system, preventing it from entering the crankcase or the compressor building.
  • 03
Comprehensive Safety Relief and Monitoring System:
Safety valves must be installed at the outlet of each compressor stage, buffer tanks, and piping systems, with discharge outlets routed to a safe area. The electrical system must comply with explosion-proof standards. Furthermore, a comprehensive interlock protection system must be provided, including alarms and shutdowns for high discharge temperature and pressure, cooling water failure protection, low lubricating oil pressure protection, and purge gas flow monitoring for the isolation chamber, forming a multi-layered safety protection network. Oxygen piping design must incorporate bends with a large radius and consider pulsation suppression to reduce friction and vibration risks.
