Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Piston Compressor Advantages

    01

    Large Flow & Cost-Effectiveness

The piston compressor can provide a wide flow range from hundreds to tens of thousands of cubic meters per hour, meeting the needs of large-scale LPG transfer, filling, and process boosting. Its technology is mature, and its procurement and maintenance costs are more economical compared to diaphragm compressors of the same flow rate, making it a preferred choice for large-scale projects.

    02

Mature and Reliable Skid-Mounted Integration & Variable Condition Adaptability

Piston compressors are easily integrated into a fully skid-mounted package including the main unit, inter-stage coolers, gas-liquid separators, lubrication system, and control panel, saving installation space and time. Through cylinder clearance adjustment and multi-stage compression design, they can adapt to certain fluctuations in suction pressure and gas flow, ensuring stable discharge pressure.

Key Design Points for LPG Piston Compressors

    01

    Explosion-Proof & Oil-Free Lubrication Design

The drive motor and all electrical components exposed to hazardous areas must comply with the Ex d IIB T4 explosion-proof rating. For applications requiring high purity or prohibiting oil contamination, the cylinder should adopt an oil-free lubrication design, utilizing self-lubricating piston rings and packing made from PTFE or carbon composite materials. If oil-lubricated, the compatibility of the lubricating oil with LPG must be ensured, and an efficient oil separation and recovery system must be equipped.
    02

    Safety Interlocks & Leakage Control

A comprehensive safety interlock system must be configured, including alarms and automatic shutdown protection for key parameters such as low suction pressure, high discharge pressure, high discharge temperature, low lubricating oil pressure, and cooling water failure. The piston rod packing is critical for preventing external leakage. For LPG media, a nitrogen buffer packing system is typically recommended, introducing low-pressure nitrogen to form a barrier that prevents LPG from leaking outward along the piston rod. Any leaked gas can be routed to a vent system.
    03

    Material Compatibility & Structural Safety

Components in contact with LPG, such as cylinders, valves, and piping, should be made of materials resistant to petroleum hydrocarbons. The compressor foundation must be stable, and exposed rotating parts must be equipped with protective guards. In locations such as filling stations, the compressor skid may require crash bollards (guardrails). The system should be pre-configured with nitrogen purge connections for displacing air before startup and purging residual LPG after shutdown.
